About us
The Dry Drayton herd was established in 2003 with foundation stock purchased from Morden Hall. It contains blood-lines from some of the best British breeders including: Morden Hall, Bozedown and Arunvale. Males used this recently have included, Bosedown The Chief and Bosedown Crackerjack, Wessex Wiracocha and Wessex Don Pepe, and Morden Hall Shakespeare and Shehan.
Our aim is to breed coloured animals with excellent conformation, high quality fibre and a good temperament.
We do this by:
Selecting and investing in top quality breeding stock.
Measuring and monitoring both breeding performance and fibre quality.
Handling and training our alpacas with kindness and patience.
We also have a policy of celebrating the diversity of the alpaca colour range - we have animals in all shades from black to white. You can view some pictures of our herd here.
As an experienced breeder of pedigree sheep Heather Peck has found the transition to alpacas both relatively straightforward and wholly positive. As she will point out, alpacas don't suffer from many of the ailments to which sheep are subject, and thankfully do not appear to share the ovine ambition to die suddenly and mysteriously. Better yet, their fleeces are a valuable and sought-after commodity.
